Genealogy and Old & Interesting Things

We invite guests to come visit our circa 1900 country store, one of the more popular museum attractions. The country store was at one point in time the backbone of the community and sold everything a farming family needed. The museum’s archives are of great interest. Included here are 100-year-old local newspapers, advertisements of yesteryear, and a small research center for genealogy. A quiet area is available for individuals wishing to do independent research.

Most rural medical practices prior to the Twentieth Century were conducted from a converted area of the doctor’s home or at the patient’s place of residence. Originally from Rich Square, the doctor's office in Jackson is on permanent loan with the Northampton County Museum.

Genealogy Research

The museum staff are willing to provide some guidance for you on how to further your genealogical and/or historical research. We have a few sources that are not found anywhere else that may or may not fit your needs. These free for research sources include, but are not limited to, our newspaper collection that begins in 1896 and continues to current with virtually every year represented. We also have (for sale) historical and genealogical source books. We also have the Jackson Masonic Lodge meeting minutes from 1810 onward and two of the county Wardens of the Poor books which are digitized. We have copies of many church histories and a county wide cemetery survey.
